01 — Executive Summary

The reputation is earned. The foundation hasn't caught up.

Mike's Tree Service already has what most local contractors spend years trying to buy: a reputation. Google shows 4.9 stars from 82 reviews, Facebook shows 98% recommend from 54 reviews, and Nextdoor named the business a Neighborhood Favorite in 2021, 2024 and 2025. The site already ranks near the top for the core Lexington searches.

The problem sits underneath. The business appears at seven different street addresses across the web. The website runs on a rented platform that takes 26.5 seconds to fully show its main content on a phone in our lab test. The quote form asks a homeowner for 12 required fields, including a company name. Each of those quietly costs calls the reviews have already earned.

Local tree searches a month across five towns

[ Data verified ] Google Business Profile, Facebook, Nextdoor, mikestreesc.com, directory listings, competitor sites, and BonsaiX keyword research — pulled October 23, 2026.

The headline opportunity. Three moves drive most of the upside: (1) one identity everywhere — one address, one email, one category on every listing; (2) a fast website you own, with structured data and a four-field quote form; (3) pages for the towns you already win on Yelp — Irmo, West Columbia, Chapin, Cayce — plus storm, crane and Lake Murray proof pages.

The seven questions, answered

  • Strongest asset? Reputation: 4.9 stars from 82 Google reviews, three Nextdoor Neighborhood Favorite awards, and an owner who replies to reviews.
  • Biggest risk? Seven addresses for one business. It undermines the map ranking those reviews have earned.
  • Best local demand? Columbia: tree service 430 a month, tree trimming 402, tree removal 328 — all rated Easy.
  • Best Lexington demand? Tree service 124 a month and tree removal 101, each worth about $16 a click on Google Ads.
  • First conversion fix? Cut the 12-field form to four fields feeding one system, and track every call.
  • Where do competitors leave a gap? Town pages for Irmo, Chapin, West Columbia, Cayce and Lake Murray; crane and storm proof; honest local pricing guidance.
  • What is not claimed? No Google ranking positions, map positions, lead counts, revenue, or AI citation rates are asserted here.
02 — Business Profile & Positioning

Three crews, 24/7 storm response, and a story worth telling

Verified: Mike's Tree Service is owned by Mike Rollins and reached at (803) 446-8477 and mikestreesc.com. In the business's own words on Nextdoor, Mike spent eight years working for one employer and eight with a partner before going out on his own in May 2017. It describes three crews, a 60-foot bucket truck and a large chipper. The website lists removal, trimming and pruning, planting, stump grinding, canopy work, and 24-hour storm cleanup, with Wisetack financing up to $25,000 over 3 to 120 months.

Twenty-five years of hands-on experience, running his own crews since 2017. That is a stronger, more believable story than “premier provider for over 25 years.”

The website's headline says “Lexington's Premier Tree Service Provider for over 25 years,” which reads as company age. Nextdoor dates the company to 2017; the 25 years are Mike's own experience. Saying both plainly protects the claim and makes it more personal.

Who calls, and what convinces them

CustomerNeedProof that converts
Homeowner with a dead or leaning pineSafe removal near the house at a fair priceBefore/after photos, insurance proof, reviews about tall pines
Storm-damage homeownerSomeone tonight, help with the insurance side24/7 line that answers, storm page, response time
Lake Murray or large-lot ownerTight access, docks, no torn-up lawnLow-impact and crane-assisted job photos Needs confirmation
Budget-conscious homeownerSpread the costFinancing shown next to every quote button
Property manager or HOAA dependable repeat vendorInsurance certificates, three crews, response commitment

Recommended positioning: “Lexington's neighborhood-favorite tree crew — three crews, 24/7 storm response, low-impact removals for tight yards, and financing up to $25,000.” Every element should be confirmed with Mike before it goes live, the crane work especially: the October 22 Facebook post credits Alpha Tree Service of Newberry for the crane.

03 — Market Opportunity & Keywords

An easy market, if you show up for it

Every local search below with measured volume is rated Easy. Clicks on these terms cost $10 to $25 each on Google Ads, which is what an organic ranking saves you every time someone calls from it. A “0 returned” result means the phrase fell below the tool's reporting threshold, not that nobody searches it.

[ Data verified ] BonsaiX keyword lookup, US scope, no city-location filter, October 23, 2026.

Together the local terms add up to roughly 2,000 searches a month across Lexington, Columbia, Irmo, Chapin and West Columbia. Nationally, “emergency tree removal” draws 4,591 searches a month and “crane tree removal” 798 — lanes a storm page and a crane page can pick up locally.

Illustrative value scenarios

These are modeled, not actual performance. Assumptions: about 2,030 local searches a month; $16 per click as the paid-equivalent value; 10% of clicks turning into a call or quote request. Average job value is not known, so no revenue is modeled.

ScenarioShare of local clicksClicks/moPaid-equivalent value/moCalls or quotes/mo

Moderate10%~200~$3,250~20
Aggressive20%~400~$6,500~40

“Near me” searches resolve to the Google map listing and come on top of these figures.

04 — Competitor Analysis

An independent market with no franchise in the way

None of Davey, Bartlett, Monster or SavATree appeared in any of the 10 searches we reviewed. Their nearest South Carolina offices are in Charleston, Rock Hill, Aiken and Greenville. The competition is local, and most of it is thin.

[ Method ] Brave Search API, US results — not Google. Google and map positions Needs confirmation

Yelp's local lists already put Mike's first for Lexington and Irmo and second for Columbia. The website itself has nothing to rank in those towns.

CompetitorWhat they do wellThe gap Mike's can take
Dixon TreesPublished price ranges, crane-assisted removal claim, TCIA, financing, 8 town pagesNo Irmo, Chapin, West Columbia or Lake Murray pages
Shealey's Property Care37 blog posts, 13 town pages, hurricane and Lake Murray postsThin job write-ups; no financing

Pioneer Tree ServiceLong history claim, crane and excavation page12-page site; towns are only map links
Sox & FreemanThe one clear ISA-certified arborist claimNot 24/7; plant-health focus

Shealey's is the one to watch. Its content volume is the most likely thing to overtake Mike's if nothing changes.

05 — SWOT

The honest balance sheet

Strengths

  • 4.9★ from 82 Google reviews; owner replies
  • Nextdoor Neighborhood Favorite 2021, 2024, 2025
  • Active Facebook: 2.2K followers, posting weekly
  • Near the top for core Lexington searches
  • Named-lender financing up to $25,000
  • Three crews and a 60 ft bucket truck

Weaknesses

  • Seven addresses in circulation
  • No structured data on any page
  • 26.5-second mobile load in lab test
  • 12-field form; two lead systems
  • No town pages, no blog
  • Unsourced “Best of Lexington” claim

Opportunities

  • Every local term rated Easy
  • No national brand competing
  • Lake Murray content is unclaimed
  • Storm-season and crane proof pages
  • Video of crane and bucket-truck work
  • Financing as a headline offer

Threats

  • Shealey's content volume
  • Dixon's review count and price transparency
  • A BBB-accredited namesake in Camden
  • A look-alike site claiming Lexington
  • Another company's listing using your phone number
06 — Website & Technical Audit

A rented site that's slowing the phone down

mikestreesc.com runs on Townsquare Interactive's hosted builder, so fixes depend on what the vendor allows. The copy is all in the page (good for search), but the platform carries a lot of weight a phone has to download first.

07 — Local SEO & Identity

One business, seven addresses

The Google profile is the strongest asset here: 4.9 stars from 82 reviews, 37 photos, open 24 hours, the primary category set to Tree service, and an owner who replies. The risk is everything around it. For the same phone number, the web lists seven different street addresses.

108 Pond DrU-Haul dealer listing

[ Verified ] Live listings captured October 23, 2026. Which address is the real base, and whether Google should show it or a service area instead Needs confirmation

Three more identity leaks. The Facebook page category is set to “Workplace & Office,” not tree service. The email differs between Facebook (mikestree@yahoo.com) and the website (MikesTreeServiceOffice@gmail.com). And a Nextdoor page for a different business, Daniel's Tree Service in Gaston, lists your phone number. That may be intentional, but it splits your signals either way.

The website's “voted Best of Lexington five years running” has no source we could find. The three Nextdoor awards are verifiable today, so we'd use those instead.

08 — AI Search Readiness

Make the answer easy to give

When someone asks ChatGPT, Gemini or Google's AI for a good tree service in Lexington, the system has to reconcile seven addresses, two emails, a Facebook page filed under “Workplace & Office,” a BBB-accredited “Mike's Tree Service” in Camden, and a nationwide look-alike site claiming Lexington. The website gives it no structured data to settle the question. That is reasoning from what's public, not a measured AI citation rate.

09 — Conversion & Lead Generation

Shorten the path from “help” to “booked”

The phone number sits in a sticky header with tap-to-call on every page, and “Get a Quote” is above the fold on a phone. That part works. The form behind the button does not.

StageTodayRecommended
Quote form12 required inputs, including Company Name, full address, a referral question and a terms boxFour fields: name, phone, address or ZIP, what you need — plus optional photos
Where leads goHomepage form to vcita; Contact page form to JobberOne form, one system (Jobber)

MeasurementCall and directions clicks tracked; form tracking unknownTracked calls and submissions by source
After hours24/7 promisedMissed-call text-back so the promise holds at 2 a.m.

The fastest win in this report: a homeowner with a tree on the roof will not fill in a company-name field. Cutting the form to four fields is a day's work and needs nothing else to change first.

10 — Content & Seasonal Strategy

Show the work, then answer the homeowner

Pages to build

  • Irmo, West Columbia, Chapin, Cayce, Gilbert, Red Bank and Lake Murray town pages with local job photos
  • Low-impact and crane-assisted removal Needs confirmation
  • 24/7 storm damage, rebuilt
  • What tree removal costs in Lexington — real ranges only
  • About Mike

Seasonal rhythm

  • Spring: trimming and pine-beetle checks
  • June–November: hurricane-season storm prep
  • After named storms: response updates
  • Fall: dead-tree removal before winter
  • Winter: land clearing and planning

The crane and bucket-truck work is the most watchable thing this business does, and today it lives only on Facebook. There is no Instagram, YouTube or TikTok account. Short job videos would feed all three, plus the town pages. Most gallery photos date from 2019; fresh ones would help every page.

11 — Paid Media

Fix the foundation before paying for clicks

Local clicks cost $16 to $25. Paid search makes sense once there's one address, one tracked form and call tracking — otherwise there's no way to know which dollars produced which jobs. Storm campaigns can switch on around named storms, when demand spikes.

Search lanes

  • Brand protection (look-alikes exist)
  • Tree removal Lexington and Columbia
  • Emergency and storm damage
  • Irmo, Chapin and Lake Murray

Measurement gates

  • Calls by source
  • Form submissions by source
  • Quotes sent and jobs won in Jobber
  • Cost per booked job

No ad budget, conversion rate or return figure is invented in this assessment.

12 — AI & Automation

Keep the 24/7 promise without staying up all night

  • Missed-call text-back replies instantly and collects the address and a photo.
  • Review requests go out when a job closes in Jobber, pointing to Google first.
  • Quote follow-up reminds homeowners at day 2 and day 7, with the financing link.
  • Storm alerts reach past customers before a forecast storm.
  • One dashboard shows calls, forms, quotes and jobs by source.

Every automated message should sound like Mike's crew and hand off to a person for pricing, safety, or anything unusual.

14 — 90-Day Growth Roadmap

From scattered listings to one business everywhere

Days 1–30 · Identity

Make it one business
  • Confirm the real address and whether Google should show it or a service area.
  • Match Facebook, Nextdoor, Porch, Yelp and ShowMeLocal to it; merge the duplicate Yelp listing; fix the Facebook category.
  • Sort out the Daniel's Tree Service phone listing.
  • Confirm crane work, insurance, and credentials; swap the unsourced award for the Nextdoor ones.
  • Launch the four-field form and call tracking.

Days 31–60 · Rebuild

A site you own
  • Fast site with structured data, one address and a real town list.
  • Rebuilt removal, trimming, stump and storm pages; low-impact and crane page if confirmed.
  • About Mike, financing beside every CTA, fresh job photos.
  • Fix broken links, real 404s, working call buttons.

Days 61–90 · Expand

Win the next towns
  • Town pages: Irmo, West Columbia, Chapin, Cayce and Lake Murray first.
  • Pricing guide and hurricane-season storm content.
  • Review requests, missed-call text-back, quote follow-up.
  • Short crane and bucket-truck videos; monthly ranking and AI visibility checks.
15 — Priority Action Checklist & Estimated Impact

The first five moves

  • Pick the one real address and make Google, Facebook, Nextdoor, Porch, Yelp and ShowMeLocal match it.
  • Replace the 12-field form with four fields feeding Jobber, and track every call and submission.
  • Move the website to a fast build you own, with structured data and a real service-area page.
  • Publish storm and low-impact removal pages with real job photos.
  • Launch town pages for Irmo, West Columbia, Chapin, Cayce and Lake Murray.

Bottom line for Mike. The hard part is done. Eighty-two Google reviews at 4.9 stars and three Neighborhood Favorite awards come from years of showing up and cleaning up. What's missing is the foundation that lets Google, AI assistants and homeowners in Irmo, Chapin and Lake Murray find that reputation: one identity, a fast site you own, and pages for the towns you already serve. That foundation is buildable in 90 days.

[ Next step ]

Let's talk about the foundation.

We can walk through the findings, confirm the open questions — starting with the address — and map the first 30 days.
